Escher Stairs and Impossible Physics

The influence of Escher can most recently be seen in the latest Christopher Nolan film, Inception, where the characters employ mathematically-inspired elements to create an impossible dream world. One such element is the Infinite Stairs, which is recreated here by Chris Detmer.

Trompe L'oeil

This form of art is called Trompe L'oeil, or "deceive the eye" in French, and has a long history dating back to the late 16th century. As Wikipedia defines the term:

Passing The Buck

These two hunters are passing the buck in this photo. Hunters are suppose to be hunting, instead they pass by this animal probably without notice. You can see their footprints by the animal so they must have walked right by it. Funny enough, hunters are not hunting in this moment.

Interactive Street Trompe L'oeil

From an unknown artist we have a series of paintings that all look like they have been drawn in the same city, perhaps even on the same street. These Trompe L'oeil are quite interactive and pedestrians alike seem to enjoy taking part in some of the illusions. One more bonus image of a beautiful lady blending in with a wall using body paint.

These sets of faces were constructed with just words. Try and see if you can make out the words. You'll see that the words themselves describe or portray a bit about the person depicted in the whole illustration itself.

The words are: Dead Alive, Peace War, Tiranny or Freedom, Threat Pretext.

The Graffiti Stairs Illusion

At first glance this may seem like a real set of stairs, but alas, it is an illusion in the form of Trompe L'oeil. It wouldn't be posted here otherwise! This invisible set of stairs have been graffiti'd on a wall and floor in a very artistic way. The splatter-paint effect gives a nice comic-like feel to what otherwise would have been a dull white hallway.
